Jeremiah 39:11-12a Now Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon gave charge concerning Jeremiah to Nebuzaradan the captain of the guard, saying, “Take him and look after him, and do him no harm

Imagine going to a public event where the President of the United States was going to appear. There would be a lot of people there and it would be difficult, if not impossible to get close enough to see anything. But then, what if a big limousine pulled up, the door opened, and the President himself stepped out, pointed at you and said, “They’re with me.” There would be no more barriers at that event!

Nebuchadnezzar and the Babylonian army had swept over Judah and besieged Jerusalem. There was destruction and chaos everywhere and nowhere to hide. Jeremiah was probably not well-known in Jerusalem, let alone the rest of the kingdom. Yet when Babylon was firmly in control, Nebuchadnezzar gave strict orders providing for the safety of Jeremiah!

How did that happen? Why did it happen? Nebuchadnezzar could not have known who Jeremiah was. But God did.

Jeremiah had lived his life completely committed to God. He had listened for and shared God’s word. He had been a faithful servant. Long ago he had surrendered his life to God.

When we live in a committed relationship with God we belong to Him. Nothing will happen to us without His knowledge because we are His. God doesn’t promise us a trouble-free life, but He does say He will never leave nor forsake us.

When I walk with Jesus every day, dedicating every day to Him, I don’t have to worry what might happen around me. There is an old song that still rings true.

Many things about tomorrow, I don't seem to understand; But I know who holds tomorrow, And I know who holds my hand.

With my hand in His, I can be at peace.

Blessings,
