Jeremiah 18:4  And the vessel that he made of clay was marred in the hand of the potter; so he made it again into another vessel, as it seemed good to the potter to make.

Jeremiah was directed to a potter’s house. I am glad that he wasn’t directed to the house of one who was attempting to draw something on paper. I have seen people having trouble with that endeavor and they often are surrounded by their failed attempts. Paper wads are often scattered around the floor in testimony to the problem.

But when he saw that the potter had a marred pot, Jeremiah watched as he just took the same lump of clay and put it back on the wheel and start again. It might not have been as it was originally designed, but it took shape according to the will of the potter.

I have often considered the Garden of Eden. There were two perfect people. And they sinned. They did the one thing God forbade. But God didn’t destroy them and start over. He certainly could have. But He worked redemptively in their lives to make a new way for them.

God hasn’t changed. He has plans for each of us. Plans for our relationships. When things get marred because of our choices it’s not His way to just throw us out or throw us away. If we will allow Him to, He will work redemptively in our lives too. He will reform, rebuild, remake us into a new creation. It might not be the same, but it will be as it seems good to Him to make.

God is trustworthy. He has our best interests at heart. Let us return to Him, the Heavenly Potter, to see what He can make out of our lives.
