Exodus 15:2a The Lord is my strength and song, And He has become my salvation;
In any organization there are people who are deeply committed and others who are along for the ride. Some who are all in and others who are always just on the sidelines. Some who have an experience and others who know someone who has an experience.
Moses had, with great trepidation, agreed to God’s plan to march into the presence of Pharaoh, king of the lone superpower of the world and say, “Let my people go!” He wasn’t bold. He was scared to death. He did that several times and Moses came to understand that even though he felt very weak, it was God Who would be his strength.
After ten plagues of terrifying description, each one seemingly worse than the last, God had convinced Pharaoh to let the people go. But Moses had seen each of those terrible plagues up close and personal and he had seen that every time the effect of the plague stopped at the land of the Israelites. What was a catastrophe for the Egyptians became a song for Moses.
On the shores of the Red Sea with the Egyptian army closing in God became salvation. The waters parted! It seems the most natural thing in the world that Moses would walk right through, but I don’t think that’s really the case. Stepping into that channel that God created took a great deal of faith. Every step of the way had to be tense seeing a wall of water on either side of them. But they did walk through and made it safely to the other side! God was trustworthy.
There are people today who find strength in God. At least in the idea of God. Lives are enriched by God and His people and ways. A kind of background music to make life fuller. But are you deeply committed to Him, or just along for the ride? Is He your salvation? Jesus lived a perfect life and suffered a terrible death to pay the penalty for our sins. He rose again on the third day and He offers salvation. But we have to accept. As though we are standing on the shores of the Red Sea. Will we walk through? Will we confess our sins and believe on the Lord Jesus for salvation?
It would be an eternal shame if He were only our strength and song.
Blessings,
