An 'In'?

II Chronicles 14:11 And Asa cried out to the Lord his God, and said, “Lord, it is nothing for You to help, whether with many or with those who have no power; help us, O Lord our God, for we rest on You, and in Your name we go against this multitude. O Lord, You are our God; do not let man prevail against You!”

Occasionally, I will be asked to pray for someone who is experiencing a real problem. A health problem or some other catastrophe. I will, of course, pray for that situation. But I find it interesting when the person who asks has no relationship with God. I suppose that’s why they find someone else to do the praying. They figure I know God so maybe I have an ‘in.’

Asa, king of Judah, had a real problem. There was a massive army attacking his country. As king, he prepared his army. But more importantly, he cried out to God. He turned to the Lord. He knew God could do big things as well as little things because he had a relationship with God. He could, even in the face of serious problems, rest on God because he had a relationship with Him. He could call on God to associate with him because of that relationship. Asa didn’t just run to God in times of trouble. He had been walking with Him. He had been actively removing anything in his kingdom that would not be pleasing to God.

We can have relationship with God, too. We can live in fellowship with Him, obeying Him, tailoring our lives to be more like Him. How much more confident we can be asking God for help when we know Him. Even more so when we know He knows us. When God is our heavenly Father and we are walking in obedience to Him, we do have an ‘in.’
