Psalm 145:4 One generation shall praise Your works to another, And shall declare Your mighty acts.
When I was younger I remember hearing about the generation gap. I’m sure that’s al-ways been a thing. But these days we seem to be working hard to perfect that gap! Now, when everything and everyone needs a label, we have Boomers, Millennials, Gen X, Gen Z, and Gen Alpha! There is a strong feeling that we are so different we just never will understand one another. I have recently seen ‘translations’ of Bible verses into Gen Z vernacular!
But somehow, we must try to understand one another. In fact, David, who wrote to-day’s Psalm, encourages us to reach across generational lines. We should share with other generations what God has done in our lives. We need this so much! It’s not good when a church is made up of only one generation. It’s easy enough to see this as a problem when a church is comprised of only elderly people, but it’s also a problem when a church is only Mil-lennials, or Gen X. We need each other and we need to share our stories of God’s work in our lives.
In a fractured and fracturing world, we need repair. That seems obvious! There is no greater fix for what ails our world than the sharing of the Gospel. God created this world, but we messed it up! We need to return to the Creator for the solution to the problems that face us. Sharing those stories of His work in our lives is how we start this. It’s something we can do, rather than just wait for others to take action.
I am older (some would say old!) but I am blessed to still have my father and many of his generation that I can talk to. I am enriched by hearing their testimonies. But I have stories to share as well and should look for opportunities to share them. I also should be willing to listen to the stories of His mighty acts that are declared by those much younger than me. This is not a one-directional chain!
The stories of God’s work in the lives of His people are too many to contain in one gen-eration! We must share them so we all may be blessed together!
Blessings,
Pastor Russ
