Like Naaman?

I Corinithians 1:18 For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.

Naaman was the top general in the Syrian army. But he contracted leprosy. This was devastating news. There was no cure. But then he’d been told of a man in Israel who could do miracles. He was out of options so he went. But Elisha wouldn’t even speak to him in person! He sent a messenger to tell him to go wash seven times in the Jordan.

Naaman was incensed! This was foolishness! There were better rivers back home! But one of his men suggested he try it. After the seventh washing, he was a new man!

We are funny people at times. We find ourselves in real trouble with no real answers. We might even come to a place where we are willing to give God a chance to fix what’s wrong with our heart and lives. Then, when we come to Him, He points to Jesus and says He’s the only way.

“That’s foolishness! There must be many ways we can come to God! In fact why should we have to go to God at all! He can come to me! Actually, I don’t believe there is a God! If God is real then He can show Himself right now or I won’t believe.” So many ways to be like Naaman. Like leprous Naaman, that is.

The message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing. But if we will, like Naaman, put aside our pride, and come to Jesus, to figuratively kneel at the foot of the cross, we will be saved! All who call on the name of the Lord will be saved!

He is calling to all. The question is will I be among the perishing, or will I, like Naaman, swallow my pride and be saved?
