Isaiah 49:16a See, I have inscribed you on the palms of My hands;
I’m not sure how many skills I could lay claim to but one thing I am very good at is forgetting! I know what it is to forget. I have spent a lifetime forgetting. These days I am fortunate to have a phone that serves as a constant reminder of the things I must remember. Before I had the phone I had the standard paper and pen. Or sometimes just a pen.
I’ve been reduced at times to writing a note on my hand. Then comes the struggle to read what invariably gets smudged or worn off.
Jesus has a reminder that is infinitely more permanent written on His hands. The scars of crucifixion, the nail prints, forever serve as a reminder of the price He paid - of His love - for me. And for you.
But isn’t Jesus perfect? Doesn’t that mean His memory is perfect? Why would He need to be reminded of that act of sacrificial love?
He doesn’t.
But I do! And by His grace, I’m not only saved, but continually reminded of the price He was willing to pay for my spiritual freedom!
Blessings,
Pastor Russ
