Superhero?

Revelation 17:14  These will wage war against the Lamb, and the Lamb will overcome them, because He is Lord of lords and King of kings, and those who are with Him are the called and chosen and faithful.”

I have always enjoyed superhero stories. People that can do amazing things and win great victories for the good guys! But all superheroes have a weakness. They have to. A superhero without a weakness is not a good character in a story. There has to be a moment where we think all is lost and the bad guy is going to win. Then, against all odds, the super-hero prevails! It makes for a great movie or book!

In Revelation 17 a beast emerges. He is terrible in description and worthy of our fear! He has seven heads and ten horns. He probably has a tremendously loud roar! He has come to make war on his enemy. He gathers all his minions and allies. He has dreamed of this moment and made all his battle plans. He will wage war against…a lamb. What? Well, not just a lamb; The Lamb! (The Lamb is a questionable choice for a superhero name, you have to admit!)

Everything has built to this one moment. The cosmic battle of the ages is about to happen. But don’t blink! It’s over almost before it starts! In the most anti-climactic ending ever, The Lamb wins! How?! Why?! Because He is King of kings and Lord of lords! Of course Jesus is going to win! How could we ever doubt?

We are so used to the way Hollywood tells stories; so used to the way books are written that we think reality might be that way too. We probably think Jesus is ultimately going to be victorious but it’ll be close! Some of us live our lives in fear that the forces of evil are growing in power and if Jesus doesn’t do something soon, it may be too late!

Don’t worry! Jesus has everything under control. He has a plan and He will succeed without even breaking a sweat. It won’t make for a good superhero story because there’ll be so little drama. There won’t be that moment when the devil ‘has Jesus right where he wants him.’ (That already happened - it was on the cross. How did that turn out??)

Take courage and be one of the called, chosen, and faithful!
