Hebrews 13:8 Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever.
I can’t say for sure when I first heard the phrase, ‘the wrong side of history,’ but it pops up more and more. It seems to be one of those accusatory things people use against another to express their own moral superiority while also attempting to sound especially erudite. Of course what they mean is that things are different now. Things have changed and you should too. People used to look at an issue one way, but ‘we now know…’ And if one isn’t quick enough to adopt their ‘enlightened’ view then there’s a problem.
The writer to the Hebrews made the glorious statement that Jesus is the same yesterday, today, and forever. He is the never-changing Lord. Some may wish He would change but He does not. That being the case, we can have a good idea what He thinks about all sorts of things by reading the Bible. If He doesn’t change, then the Gospels would be a great place to meet Him. The epistles are a great place to begin to understand Him. What Jesus said there in the Bible, He still believes. What He commanded then, He still expects. What He prohibited then is still a ‘no.’
Jesus is the defining Person of all history! The calendar is literally divided by Him! If I am tempted to think that Jesus is terribly outdated or passe’ then that is a good signal that I have veered into error. Jesus can never be said to be on the wrong side of history, but history has sadly been on the wrong side of Him before.
I want to be on the right side of Jesus!
