Weakness?

January 12, 2026, 7:36 AM

II Corinthians 12:9 And He said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore most gladly I will rather boast in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.

I never thought I’d live to see the day when my alma mater, Indiana University would be playing in a National Championship football game! It’s been an amazing season. When I watch the team I see such skill and strength! The coach picked those players for just that reason! (I may or may not have been caught boasting about their abilities!)

We may well like the idea of boasting. We savor being more than we are. Stronger, thinner, wealthier, smarter. All of these things, if accomplished, will be things that we can point to and say, “I did that!”

But when it comes to our relationship with Jesus, things get real. Christ doesn’t look at us and call us to His cause based upon our potential. In fact, He often calls the least qualified. In the quiet, when it’s just us, we probably don’t feel so qualified ourselves. But Jesus said an amazing thing - “My power is made perfect in weakness!” I can’t speak for you, but if weakness is the needed ingredient for Jesus’ power to made perfect, He’s in luck! I’ve got that!

I want to be strong. I want to be ‘enough’. But if those things won’t fit me for His service, if they are things that will actually keep me more distant from Him, then I can be weak. In fact, though it might seem difficult to wrap my mind around really meaning that, Jesus was way ahead of me. He said, “My grace is sufficient for you.”

He knew that on my own, I’m not interested in weakness. But with His supplied grace I can boast in my weakness!
