Isaiah 9:6   For unto us a Child is born, unto us a Son is given: and the government shall be upon His shoulder: and His name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.

Christmas is, for most of us, a time of memories. We think of Christmases past and remember happy times. We likely remember times of our childhood when the excitement of the big day coming got exceedingly difficult to bear. School was finally out and it got even harder to wait without that distraction! After it was over and the excitement had worn off we might call a friend and give one another a recap of how things went. “What’d you get?!”

When I think of all the many gifts I have received, I know that never once in answer to that question did I answer, “a baby.” But a Baby is why we celebrate! When God wanted to get us the perfect gift He gave us a Child. It was the one thing we desperately needed but never even dreamed we’d get!

Because of our sin, we are guilty. We deserve judgment and punishment. The terms are clear - the wages of sin is death. (Romans 6:23a) But God didn’t want to spend eternity without you so He gave the original Christmas Gift - Jesus. Because He came Paul could finish the verse - but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. (Romans 6:23b)

I’m so thankful for the gift of God! “What’d I get?” Everything!
